Sun Country Airlines soon formed after a much larger airline, Braniff, decided to close their doors for good. Sun Country is the result of some Braniff employees took matters into their own hands and formed the new company. Their flying hub of origin was St. Paul Minnesota, and they have become endeared to the hearts of Minnesotans over the years.
They seemed to specialize in flying vacationers to many popular locations in Mexico, Caribbean, and the southern US. They built their business on vacation air travel to popular, warm locales. The company had a short-lived death spiral after 9/11 happened, but it seemed to only last a few months. In 2002 Sun Country Airlines was bought by investors and resumed regular flights. Those schedules included hot spot destinations such as Los Angeles, Orlando and Denver to name a few. Shortly (fm radio antenna) thereafter even more destinations were
added such as Washington DC and New York. This little airline quickly gained popularity in the state of Minnesota where it is based out of St. Paul. Since they returned in early 2000s, Sun Country has worked hard to improve all aspects of their service.

This move was based on a selection involving the US Dept of Transportation, USDOT. Since they are based in Minneapolis, that is where the flight will begin.
There is a brief stop for passengers traveling to Washington DC from Lansing. This is all very recent news at the time of this writing, so the stops have not actually been put into service, yet. The good news for the company is they will be doing this on a daily basis.
